As you translate your forms and processes into iAuditor as templates, you will not only need to ask the right questions but also use the most appropriate types of responses to make sure the data you capture is meaningful and easily translates into analytics.

This article lists the different response types available to you when building templates, and describes what they do. Check out our getting started guide on everything to do with templates to learn more!

Title Page

The below response types pertain to responses that can only be used on the Title Page.

These types can only be used once in the Title Page as they have unique properties such as helping customize the inspection title format.

Response TypeDescription
PersonThis field auto-populates with the name of the user starting the inspection.
Inspection dateThis field auto-populates with the date and time of the device used for the inspection and can be edited to determine the Conducted on date for the inspection. Depending on the use case, the field can be set up to only capture either the date or the time.
Document numberThis field automatically indexes each inspection conducted from the same template with document numbers. Depending on the use case, the field can be set up to follow a customized alphanumeric numbering system.

Note that Document numbers will only generate when the inspection is online.
e.g. AUDIT000001, AUDIT 000002, AUDIT000003
Inspection locationThis field automatically populates with the location address and coordinates based on the device’s location - you may need to grant iAuditor location permission to auto-populate. The field can also be edited to a specific address searched by the user. Data captured from this field also shows in Analytics, under Location.

Multiple-choice responses

These responses are found on the left-hand column in the “Type of response” selection box and display a custom set of responses to be used as multiple-choice questions.

When a new template is created, there are 5 pre-set response sets for use and customization:

  • Yes, No, N/A
  • Good, Fair, Poor, N/A
  • Safe, At Risk, N/A
  • Pass, Fail, N/A
  • Compliant, Non-compliant, N/A
Response TypeDescription
Multiple-choice responsesThis type allows custom responses to be inputted and the following elements can be set:
- Response colors
- Failed responses
- Response and question scores
Global Response SetsThis type exists independently from a specific template and can be used across multiple templates within one organization.

Due to the unique nature of this type, there are no customization options for this apart from adding, removing, and rearranging responses.

Inspection page

These response types are common types found in the right-hand column when selecting the type of response to a question.

Response TypeDescription
Text answerThis field accepts alphanumeric input in two formats:
Short answer - one line of text
Paragraph - multiple lines of text

This field also allows for scanning barcodes
NumberThis field only accepts numeric inputs to be placed in one line. Within this field, a temperature response can be captured as well.

This field also allows for scanning barcodes. Note that any barcodes including letters will read as “Invalid number” when scanned.
CheckboxThis field transforms the question to an option that can be checked or left unchecked.

e.g. Checked = True/1, Unchecked = False/0
Date & TimeThis field captures a specified date and time. Depending on the use case, the field can be set up to only capture either the date or the time.
PhotoThis field allows for photo uploads from the photo gallery or camera via the mobile application, and image files from a computer.
SliderThis field allows for a numeric answer to be chosen from a set range.

e.g. 1 to 10 with an increment of 1
AnnotationThis field allows a “background” photo to be annotated when using the mobile application.
SignatureThis field accepts name and signature input. On the mobile application, the signature is captured via mobile touchscreens. Whereas a photo upload of the signature is required when answering this field on the web app.
LocationThis field captures the location address and coordinates based on the device’s location or a specific address searched by the user.
InstructionThis field allows text instructions or photo references to be displayed during an inspection and on the report.
