We understand that barcodes are widely used in some industries. Not only because they can help to minimize human error when capturing information, but also for the simple fact that scanning barcodes can save people a tremendous amount of time, from having to input often complex data manually. With iAuditor, you can add questions to your templates and allow frontline users to scan barcodes when answering inspection questions.

This article lists the barcode formats we support and shows how you can add questions to your templates for users to scan barcodes during inspections.

Before you begin

You must have “View and Edit” permission at a minimum for the template you wish to add a barcode scanner question in. Learn how you can share your templates with your team.

Keep in mind that only the following response types support barcode scanning during inspections.

  • Person (Title page only): Accepts alphanumeric input.
  • Document number (Title page only): Accepts alphanumeric input.
  • Text answer: Accepts alphanumeric input.
  • Number: Accepts numeric input only.

Whilst you can add the barcode scanner questions on both the web app and the mobile app, the option to scan barcodes is only available whilst conducting inspections on the mobile app. Users can tap the barcode icon of applicable questions to scan the following types of barcodes.

  • EAN-13/UPC-A
  • UPC-E
  • EAN-8
  • Code 128
  • Code 39
  • Interleaved 2 of 5
  • QR Code

Please note that the scan barcode option does not appear in the preview when you build templates, but it is available when conducting inspections on the mobile app.
